PREMIUM BEE FONDANT
Honeybee Food Co. Bee Fondant is a premium, easily digestible food for honeybees containing 85%-90% sugar and 10%-15% water. The ultra smooth consistency provides easily digestible, essential nutrients in the absence of honey in a beehive. This product is ideal for supporting winter feeding, early spring growth, and bridging gaps between honey flows.
This fondant is also used to support the formation of new bee colonies.
Ingredients: Australian cane sugar, water, citric acid
100% Australian made Victoria.
Directions: Cut a small “V”, as per the guidelines on the packaging, in the centre of the bag. Tuck flap to create a small opening.
For winter feeding, place opening face down on top of your brood frames to mitigate honey blindness. For warmer weather feeding, place opening face up.
Simply answered, it depends on the colonies population and strength, stored honey and access to external resources such as nectar. If your are wintering down with minimal honey stores, you will need to consider several bags throughout winter.
An easy way to think of the different feeding options is this:
Sugar syrup certainly serves its purpose, especially during warm, dry weather, mimicking a nectar flow which can help hydrate your colony and stimulate brood growth. However, syrup does require significant effort on the part of the honeybee before it becomes suitable for consumption. Nectar collected by bees undergoes a complex transformation process within their bodies, involving storage in the honey crop, enzymatic conversion in the honey stomach, and subsequent dehydration in honeycomb cells, before it becomes honey for a bee to consume.
In contrast, Honeybee Food Co.’s bee fondant eliminates the need for such laborious processing. The fondant is meticulously formulated to resemble the nutritional profile of fully capped honey, making it a convenient and efficient feeding solution. Bees can effortlessly nibble on the fondant directly, much like they would with honey, bypassing the need to dehydrate large volumes of water.
